Lisa is a 44-year-old woman who tried to kill herself by overdosing on medication she had in the house. After she was released from the local hospital, she was referred to a local community agency that provides counseling services. When Dr. Foster met with Lisa, he asked her why she wanted to harm herself. She said that she just feels like life is one big chore that seems to never end. Dr. Foster noted that the client came into the office looking very disheveled and looked as if she had not taken a shower in the past week. Dr. Foster asked Lisa if she found pleasure in any activities, and Lisa said she did at some point in her life but that she cannot even remember the last time when she was able to find pleasure in her life. Dr. Foster states that he believes that Lisa may fit the diagnosis for major depressive disorder. Dr. Foster would like your thoughts on Lisa’s case.
