Memphis recently removed 2 confederate statues from downtown. This link phrovides more background about the United Daughters of the Confederacy, responsible for many of the Confederate statues in the south : https://www.vox.com/videos/2017/10/25/16545362/southern-socialites-civil-war-history

The United Daughters of the Confederacy, a women’s group that was formed in 1894, led the effort to revise Confederate history at the turn of the 20th century. That effort has a name: the Lost Cause. It was a campaign to portray Confederate leaders and soldiers as heroic, and it targeted the minds and identities of children growing up in the South so they would develop a personal attachment to the Confederate cause.

For this assignment you must find a relief or freestanding sculpture in your town or an area you frequent that is not a Confederate memorial.Remember most relief sculpture is located on the exterior and interior of buildings. Some freestanding sculpture contains relief images on the base.  Research the history of the sculpture.Where is it located? Who is the artist? Does it have a title? Is there a plaque with information near it?  Who payed for the piece? When was it made? Why was it made? What is it made out of? Answer the questions and add any other pertinent information such as whether it is relief or freestanding. Include a photograph .
