1. After reading this week text I have better understanding of information literacy. “Information literacy is the ability to identify a need for information and successfully locate, evaluate, and use that information ethically and legally for a determined purpose.” (Winckelmann, 2015) From my interpretation of information literacy helps a writer find, organize and analyze and organize information effectively. Being able to understand information literacy will ensure that I am able to conduct the correct research in to order to formulate my papers with the most accurate information as possible. Being an online student being able to understand information literacy at a face pace is a very important skill to adapt not only with school but in the workforce as well. “Developing information literacy skills can also benefit you in the workplace. Reports from U.S. employers point to a growing interest in the development of information literacy, critical thinking, and lifelong learning in their employees.” (Weiner, 2011) In the Army many of the higher ranking officials look for Soldiers who are able to recognize certain plan of actions by being able to provide a product with minimal supervision that helps the organization run smoother and better effective.” Critical thinking requires the use of a specific set of skills to determine the value of an information source: inference, analysis, evaluation, interpretation, explanation, and self-regulation.” (Winckelmann, 2015)There are many times where I have to think outside the box versus completing a task a certain to get better results which put systems in place as well helping my organization run better. Information literacy is important as a student here at Ashford because classes are so short is often times seems as though the classes begin to mesh together due to it being a lot of information over a five week span. Being able to use your critical thinking skills and properly analyzing the information for the week helps a student determine whether information is credible or not

These concepts will benefit me a great deal whether I’m on the path of finishing my degree or at work. Being able to critical think as well to conduct through research is beneficial when creating new ideas to improve how my organization functions. It is also important when I begin to develop my ideas that I cite any information to keep my integrity to maintain my reputation that can affect me legally in school or in the workplace.

2.  Information Literacy is from my understanding, the ability for someone to have information needed for research, and be able to locate the correct information and use it critically and make sure it’s a reliable source. I as a student and a mother of children in school, with information literacy, we have to first understand what it is we are going to research, then we need to have the correct information to research, locate the correct information and make sure it’s a reliable resource. Interpret, as a student you have to interpret what it is your researching. That, to my understanding, is understanding the information that was given to you Creative thinking is for me to be able to be open minded.         “Creative thinkers “think outside the box,” meaning that they are not limited by  barriers or restrictions; they may even break established rules and        procedures ” Von Winckelmann (2015). As a student, I need to have an open mind on what information I have and being able to think of different ways to look research my ideas. Problem solving is to my understanding, the process of understanding any problem I run into and find a way to effectively solve it. As a student, I have to find what my problem is, and find a way to resolve it.

One skill concept I used in life as a former hairstylist was interpretation. I had to be able to interpret what it was the client wanted. If you couldn’t interpret what  kind of style they were wanting, then I couldn’t follow through with a great hair style. Another skill concept I used was creative thinking. You have to be able to have a creative side when creating a great hair style. You have to come in with an open mind, and think outside the box. Problem solving is another skill I used. I had clients come in with issues that I had to think of how to solve to meet their needs. When a client comes in unhappy, maybe because of another hairstylist mess up, you have to first understand what the client has a problem with then find out how what caused the mess up or identify the problem. Then, I have to brainstorm Ideas of how I’m going to fix the problem. ”   “Once the problem and its symptoms have been identified, take time to brainstorm a list of  possible solution                          ” Von Winckelmann, S. (2015). I then, evaluate if I have the correct tools to fix it, then I apply my method of fixing it.
