Outline of a Coaching Plan

You have been hired to develop a coaching strategy to prepare U.S. food company executives of both genders for assignment in East Asia. They will be leading multicultural teams in a new division of the company. None of the executives has had a foreign assignment before. Your task is to develop an outline of a coaching plan for this group, to present to senior management.

  • Refer to Geert Hofstede’s Web site (linked in Resources) when developing the content.
  • Include these elements in your coaching outline:
    • Write 10 essential interview questions to ask each executive.
    • Explain the coaching approach you would use.
    • Identify cultural differences of which they should be cognizant.
    • Discuss how age and gender inform coaching decisions.
    • Discuss whether age or race should be considered and if either would affect coaching recommendations.
  • Write a role-play scenario involving an interaction between a western male executive and a subordinate East Asian male:
    • How should he give instructions to East Asian middle managers?
    • How can he test for understanding?
    • How can he be sure his instructions are understood, beyond asking, “Do you understand?”
  • Write a role-play scenario involving an interaction between a western female executive and a subordinate East Asian male:
    • How should she give instructions to East Asian middle managers?
    • How can she test for understanding?
    • How can she be sure her instructions are understood, beyond asking, “Do you understand?”
  • Explain how you would evaluate the effectiveness of the coaching plan.
  • Identify ethical considerations in your approach.
  • Provide supporting sources for the interview questions, the coaching approach, and the evaluation plan.

Additional Requirements

  • Written communication: Written communication is free of errors that detract from the overall message.
  • APA formatting: Resources and citations are formatted according to current edition style and format.
  • References: One reference for each comprehension test and one reference for the interview questions.
  • Font and font size: Arial or Times New Roman, 12 point.
  • Length of coaching outline: 5–7 pages.
