Physician education

Training under an individual physician remained the most common method of physician education when the first medical school was established in 1756 (Sultz & Young, 2011). Physicians in training were granted a certificate on completion of their apprenticeship. Medical education has changed substantially since that time and now there are over 815,000 licensed physicians in the United States (American Medical Association [AMA], 2012). With the shift from hospital-based care to preventive medicine and community care, physicians will require additional training and continuing education to prepare for that transition. In Week 1, you analyzed the article “Building a Bridge to Somewhere Better: Linking Health Care Research and Health Policy” by Davis, Gross, & Clancy (2012) to identify successful partnerships with major stakeholders in the US healthcare industry. This week, you will use the assigned readings in Week 2 to describe the training that will be necessary for physicians and other healthcare providers as they shift from hospital-based care to community care. Create a 2–3-page chart in Word format. Include the following: •Recommend the necessary trainings for physicians and other healthcare providers as they shift from hospital-based care to community care. •Describe the type of trainings, the trends they will address, and the settings in which they may be used. •Explain how these trainings will benefit patients and improve physician performance. Be sure that your chart has an introductory paragraph that summarizes the information contained within the chart and highlights the major trends in training based on the shift from hospital-based care to community care. In addition, support your statements with scholarly references and appropriate examples. Cite all sources using the APA format. American Medical Association (AMA).
