Narrow your focus to the poetry of the “Harlem Renaissance”: How did it both reflect and shape the American Experience?

Just as you had a plan for your Research Essay, you’ll want to plan out your Literary Analysis Essay. The Literary Analysis Essay should be approximately 1000 words in length and based upon a reading assignment selected by your instructor from the Norton Introduction to Literature.

**Start with your thesis statement. Developing the outline is like drawing a map, marking off the clear points that you want to stop and explore.

****Narrow your focus to the poetry of the “Harlem Renaissance”: How did it both reflect and shape the American Experience?

Write your Literary Analysis Essay Proposal. The Proposal must include an approved topic and thesis. It should also be relatively error-free. Use the guidelines below or to create your Literary Analysis Proposal (or use the previous Proposal Handout). Include the following:

· Your main topic, focus, and why you have chosen the poems in question.

· Your working thesis statement (an assertion) linking poems in Chapter 21 to the Harlem Renaissance.

· Your plan. Limit yourself to three (3) poems if working with the 5 paragraph (1-3-1) essay.
