The focus of this module’s discussion is to explore policy that relates to nursing workforce. You will think in depth about staffing, technology, and other factors that are and can be regulated through policy that impact nursing workforce.

In your assigned readings for this module, it is not clear whether the California staffing regulations have improved patient outcomes.  Studies do show that nurse satisfaction has improved and nurses perceive they are providing better care.  Is improving nurse satisfaction a sufficient reason to establish regulation as done in California? Why or Why not?
  2. The American Nurses Association has made a stand on staffing regulations for registered nurses. What is their stance? Name two reasons that the ANA present to support their position.  What are your thoughts on the ANA position?
