miscommunication

Guidelines for Critical Analysis of an Article  You completed your article summaries in Module 3. The next step is to complete a  critical analysis of each article. For each article, ask yourself these questions when  completing this section of your Information Retrieval Paper.  â€¢ What were the strengths of the research? Were a significant number of  participants studied in an appropriate setting that can be applied in a broader  sense?  â€¢ What were the limitations of the research? Was the environment controlled?  â€¢ What did the author leave out?  â€¢ Were barriers identified and addressed?  â€¢ Could the findings be implemented with purpose and expected outcomes?  Article 1  In the space below, post the reference for the first article in correct APA format. If you  made errors in formatting your reference for this article in Module 3, now is the time to  make the appropriate changes so you do not make the same formatting error over and  over.  Hayes, A. Apply  correct APA format and scholarly writing style as you critique the article’s strengths and  limitations related to your stated research question.    The article provided above tackles the imperfect communication that sets in the  hospital environment with junior doctors. Handover is typically considered the epitome  of mean of communication due to its significant information retrieval, alerting the next  provider what to expect, and for patient safety purposes. Hayes interviews 19 qualified  doctors, mostly junior doctors, that had worked in several medical and surgical  specialties. From the interviews, Hayes obtained two impacts: quality of care and effect  on staff. Hayes states “The most common quote for the consequences of poor handover  was ‘things get missed’…including patients not being seen, test results overlooked,  confusion over care planning, and slowing the speed of patient care” (Hayes el al, 2018).  The inefficient information passed over by previous providers defies the very definition  of healthcare: patient safety. However decimated the consequence may be, it happens  quite often and daily. This article shows the deep contemplation between many providers  and the miscommunication. One ambiguity would be it is within junior doctors with less  experience than those considered senior doctors with superb knowledge and high  expertise.    Article 2  In the space below, post the reference for the second article in correct APA format If you  made errors in formatting your reference for this article in Module 3, now is the time to  make the appropriate changes so you do not make the same formatting error over and  over.  Taran S. (2011). An examination of the factors contributing to poor communication  outside the physician-patient sphere. Not only is it between physicians to physicians, but also  includes between physicians and nurses, between hospitals and other hospitals (Taran,  2011). One of the worrying sources of prevalent problems in medicine is in fact  miscommunication between physicians and nurses. Taran focuses on the internal  problems between the two elements, not just verbal or nonverbal communications. When  physicians give the tasks and orders to nurses via written requests, the nurses are required  to follow for many purposes including patient safety. Because the orders consist of  crucial instructions, failure to abide will lead to potential death. Taran then raises the  question of “why physicians continue to employ indirect modes of communication… and  why nurses don’t object to it… perhaps one reason why written communication remains  prevalent is that nurses fear questioning what they might consider to be a standard    practice among all physicians” (Taran, 2011). The hierarchy with healthcare field had  created a barrier to not communicate well without potentially questioning their abilities  and standards. This research thoroughly discusses and raises questions about the  miscommunication amongst all the faculty members. The only limitation is that the  author had not brought up the possible methods to improve the communicating skills.    Article 3  In the space below, post the reference for the third article in correct APA format. Retrieved from  https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4954910/  In the space below, write a one-paragraph critique of your third research article. Apply  correct APA format and scholarly writing style as you critique the article’s strengths and  limitations related to your stated research question.  Authors on this article talk about the miscommunication between nurses and  patients that prohibits providing qualitiy for their health. They used questionnaires for  both nurses and patient to assess the satisfactory of patients (70 nurses and 50 patients in  a hospital). From the questionnaire, the mean score of nurse-patient commonc factors  were significantly lower than those with nurse-nurse factors. The intriguing part is that  this is controlled and held in Iranian culture. The diversity and multicultural aspect is  similar to those in US. They state “all aspect of care and nursing are of high importance  in communication with patients… patients with communication disability were three  times more likely to experience medical complications” (Norouzinia et al, 2015). With    the setting being in Iran and its multicultural environment, there are several elements of  communication are required such as relgious background, cultural norms, and barriers.  Without excellent abilities to communicate, nurses will face difficult times with the  patients. The evaluation sought the impeccable ways to improve the satisfaction of  patients with the results; however, the limitation of it being in Iran would be the only  flaw even as multicultural and diversity the environment may be.
