Assumptions in Racial Profiling

Law enforcement agencies are frequently criticized for detaining individuals not due to any hard evidence but due to the colors of their skins or their ethnic features, their styles of dressing, their ages, or the languages they speak. Again, you might have witnessed small children and the elderly in wheelchairs being examined at airports just for the sake of political correctness and emphasis on random search.

Using the module readings and the Argosy University online library resources, research issues of racial profiling.

Respond to the following:

  • Describe the erroneous assumptions of racial profiling.
  • Explain how public hysteria and self-fulfilling prophecies influence opinions and racial profiles.
