Jonathon is a 17-year-old senior in high school who has recently been seen, along with his parents, by a psychologist for family counseling. Counseling was mandated by the court after Jonathon and two friends vandalized some rural mailboxes. His parents do not approve of some of the friends Jonathon chooses.

1. What developmental tasks are the adolescents pursuing?
2. What topics/subjects might cause Jonathon and his parents to disagree?
3. What suggestions/explanations might be given to Jonathon’s parents to help them understand what he is experiencing at this age, as well as how to improve their relationship with him?
