Genograms

Social workers use genograms to gather and assess information about clients’ histories and family patterns over time. This valuable tool provides information to social workers, and it helps clients recognize and change problems in family patterns. Social workers may face challenges when working with individuals and families to develop genograms. For example, clients may have a disjointed family, have very little knowledge about their family, or feel uncomfortable talking about their family.
