Mr. Matthew is being admitted with a distended abdomen and absent bowel sounds, stating, “I haven’t taken a crap in a week!” He reports living alone, having no children, and looking forward to “having people to talk to while I’m here” (Learning Objectives: 4, 7, and 9).
