2-3 paragraphs – research about Cybersecurity issues involving big data

A rapid diffusion of new and evolving ICTs such as social media, cloud computing and big data across organizations has been a key global trend in recent decades. Regarding the penetration of big data in organizations, according to IDC, 70% of large organizations had purchased external data by 2014 and 100% are expected to l do so by 2019. IDC’s forecast indicated that during 2015-2019, spending on cloud-based Big Data and analytics (BDA) solutions will grow three times as fast as spending for on premise solutions. Another finding that merits discussion is that by 2018, half of all consumers are expected to regularly interact with cognitive computing- based services.

Organizations have delayed the adoption of new ICTs such as big data and the cloud due to real and perceived cyber-threats associated with such technologies. For instance, Voltage Security’s survey conducted in April 2013 at InfoSecurity Europe with over 300 senior-level IT and security professionals indicated that 76% expressed concerns about inability to secure data in big data initiatives. 56% reported that they could not start or finish cloud and big data projects due to security concerns.
