Term Paper

Your paper is to be 1,500 words in length (2,000 maximum, not including notes and bibliography). It will require you to do research on the topic you choose, making use of a variety of primary and secondary sources. It is strongly suggested that you choose a topic as quickly as possible. If you would like to write on another topic, instead of those listed here, that is possible, but it must be approved first.

It will be due Friday, December 3th at 5pm. Papers will be submitted on Blackboard.

Number of sources:

Primary sources: as many as needed. In some circumstances, that number might be small (e.g., question 6). In other topics, you might draw on many different sources.

Secondary sources:you need a minimum of the following:

  • 2 monographs (an academic book, usually written by one author that focuses on a specific topic; i.e., not a textbook or general history)
  • 2 journal articles and/or contributions to edited volumes (an edited book with many individual authors)
  • 1 academically worthy online source; if you are unsure what that is, see:

In addition (not in place of), you may include up to no more than: 1 textbook, 2 general historical sources and 3 encyclopaedia/dictionary entries.

Compare the European Renaissance to the cultural renaissance of Ming China. What did they share in common? What about them were different
